‘Nanatsuboshi’ from Hokkaido

This variety has consistently been awarded ‘Special A’ in taste rankings from 2010 to 2025.
'Nanatsuboshi', a variety accounting for approximately half of the prefecture’s cultivated area, takes its name from the Big Dipper shining in the Hokkaido night sky. It has a subtle sweetness. The balance of stickiness, lustre and bite is excellent, and its flavour remains unchanged even when cold. Furthermore, it is characterised by its unobtrusive yet firm texture, ensuring you never tire of eating it day after day.
The Shiribeshi region in south-western Hokkaido (including Imakane Town, Setana Town and the Niseko area) is home to the Shiribeshi-Ribetsu River, which has been selected as Japan’s finest clear stream (the river with the best water quality). Thanks to the significant temperature difference between day and night and the fertile soil, high-quality rice is cultivated here. We source our rice from a selection of carefully chosen farmers.
