‘Yumepirika’ from Hokkaido

This is Hokkaido’s finest brand of rice, having achieved the highest rating of ‘Special A’ in taste rankings for 14 consecutive years (as of 2025).
This premium brand of rice from Hokkaido is hugely popular in Japan. It is characterised by its pronounced stickiness, moderate softness and natural sweetness, and—as is typical of Hokkaido rice—it pairs exceptionally well with seafood dishes. When cooked, it has a lustrous sheen and is visually stunning. Rice bearing a certification mark, which indicates it has met strict quality standards (such as a protein content of 7.4% or less), is distributed as a safe, reliable and high-quality product.
Raneko Town, through which flows the Shiribetsu River—repeatedly voted Japan’s finest in terms of water quality—offers an ideal environment for rice cultivation. At Mr Sakano’s farm, every effort is made to enhance the soil’s vitality, such as spreading rice bran and rice straw over the fields after harvest to encourage soil fermentation. To preserve quality after harvest, the rice is stored as paddy rice, and the brown rice is kept in a refrigerator at 12°C.
