It has consistently achieved the highest ranking of ‘Special A’ in the rice taste rankings since 2011.
In 2019, Higashikawa Rice won the Grand Gold Prize at the ‘Yumepirika Contest’ for Hokkaido’s branded rice, ‘Yumepirika’.

The name ‘Yumepirika’ combines the ‘dream’ of producing ‘Japan’s most delicious rice’ with ‘Pirika’, an Ainu word meaning ‘beautiful’. Characterised by its soft texture when cooked and glossy grains, you can truly appreciate its deliciousness even when eaten on its own.
It boasts a rich sweetness and deep flavour, with a strong stickiness and a chewy, mochi-like texture. The beauty of its gleaming white appearance when cooked is also a key to its popularity. Rice bearing a certification mark, having met strict quality standards (such as a protein content of 7.4% or less), is distributed as safe, reliable, high-quality rice.                                          Higashikawa Town cultivates rice using mineral-rich groundwater from Mount Asahidake in the Daisetsuzan range. At Mr Ichikawa’s farm, rice is produced using a circular farming method that involves fermenting rice bran and returning it to the soil, alongside the use of home-made organic fertiliser. Grown using meltwater filtered through sand and small stones, this rice is highly recommended for those wishing to experience the authentic flavour of Yumepirika.
